Dance We Do

2024

Creative direction: Alex Fefegha, Olivia Ema
Unreal developer: Olivia Ema
Producer: Mediale
Client: Digital Body Festival

Dance We Do is a 3-minute dance film, exploring Efik culture through motion capture and Metahumans in Unreal engine, honouring ancestral traditions as living and continuous in the digital environment. The core concept interrogates how we preserve cultural memory, using digital technology as a site for cultural preservation. The film was commissioned by the Digital body festival which explores the intersection of the moving body and digital technology.

Central to the film is the dance, to capture the movements we used motion tracking technology.

Digital fashion construction and fitting tests

The mask is an important artifact within the digital fashion construction, symbolising the transition from real world to digital environment.  In real life, the mask would appear as face make-up, used for beautification and used as an expression of femininity.
